10-Day Itinerary
Day 1. Arrival in Bishkek
Arrival at the airport. Meet your expert ethnographic guide. Introductory briefing on the program. Accommodation in a hotel.
Day 2. Bishkek – Tokmok – Kegety – Bokonbaeva
Visit the UNESCO Balasagun historical complex, the ancient Karakhanid city (9th–10th centuries) with the Burana Minaret and museum. Explore Kegety waterfall and walk along the shores of Lake Issyk-Kul, learning about ancient submerged towns. Lunch and dinner at local cafés. Overnight in a yurt camp on the lake shore.
Day 3. Bokonbaeva – Kadzhi-Sai – Tamga
Participate in a local culinary master class in Bokonbaeva. Visit the Manzhaly healing springs, the Tonskie Motifs Stone Museum, and a felt craft workshop. Explore the Fairy Tale Canyon with its unique rock formations and visit the Barskoon waterfalls. Drive to 4200 m to the “Tears of the Leopard” waterfall. Overnight in a guesthouse in Tamga.
Day 4. Tamga – Jeti-Oguz – Kyzyl-Tuu – Karakol
Visit Kyzyl-Tuu village, known for skilled craftsmen producing yurts, carpets, and felt products. Tour the local handicraft museum. Optional horseback ride to the nearby waterfall. Continue to Karakol, founded by Russian explorers in the late 19th century. Overnight in a hotel.
Day 5. Excursions Around Karakol
Visit the Nikolai Przhevalsky Museum, historic wooden church, and Dungan mosque. Afternoon trip to Ak-Suu Gorge with thermal springs; optional bathing. Overnight in a hotel.
Day 6. Karakol – Zharkymbayevo – Grigoriev Gorge
Participate in a felt carpet-making workshop, creating your own national design. After lunch, travel to Grigoriev Gorge, overnight in yurts.
Day 7. Grigoriev Gorge – Cholpon-Ata
Experience an eagle show with trained birds of prey, used historically for hunting. Optional horseback riding through the gorge. Lunch in a yurt with local nomads. Transfer to Cholpon-Ata. Overnight in a hotel on the lake shore.
Day 8. Cholpon-Ata – Tamchi
Visit the open-air petroglyph museum, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Tour the Cholpon-Ata ethnographic museum. In Tamchi village, join a master class on wool rug making. Evening lakeside walk to enjoy the sunset. Overnight in a local family guesthouse.
Day 9. Tamchi – Bishkek
On the way back, explore Kok-Moynok canyons, unique sandstone and clay formations from the ancient lake bottom. Final banquet in Bishkek. Overnight in a hotel.
Day 10. Bishkek – Airport
Transfer to the airport and end of the tour.
